Numerous industries heavily rely on air compressors and they
need to be up and running at all times for the sake of optimum productivity. It
is a powerful tool which is used for the creation and movement of pressurized
air. If you want to minimize downtime and increase productivity, then your air
compressors must be regularly inspected and serviced, just like any other
machine. If you fail to do so, they will be prone to frequent breakdowns
causing loss of productivity, heavy maintenance costs, and reduced life of the
device and at times pre-mature air compressor replacement.
If you are looking for a checklist for air compressor servicing and maintenance, then this post is for
you.
1.
Clean the air filter
The air filter has a pivotal role to play and it helps filter
out impurities before the air leaves the machine; however, due to frequent use
the air filter itself gets clogged with dirt, impurities and other elements. If
you want to keep at bay expensive air compressor servicing costs, then this crucial part must be inspected,
cleaned and if necessary replaced on a regular basis.
2.
Inspect and clean the oil filter
The oil filters must be checked from time to time and
replaced to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the machine. When oil
enters into the system, the quality of air leaving the machine gets degraded.
Degraded compressed air hampers plenty of industrial processes and hence the
oil filter must be cleaned and replaced on a regular basis.
3. Replace the lubricant every 3 months
There are a good number of internal parts and joints made of
metal running inside the machine. They are constantly in motion and the
lubricant facilitates a smooth and non-corrosive movement between the surfaces
of these metals. This also prevents any sort of erosion; however, when the
lubricant is not replaced every 3 to 6 months, the internal parts inside the
machine start to erode. Check the viscosity of the lubricant every 3 to 6
months and change it.
4. Lubrication of Motor Bearings
Pay attention to the lubrication of the motor bearings. It is
an important bit of air compressor servicing. In absence of proper lubrication, rust starts getting developed
on the surface of the bearings preventing smooth running and eventually causing
the motor to fail.
5. Check other parts
There are several important parts in an air compressor which
need to be checked and replaced on a regular basis. These include belts, intake
vents, air dryer and amps to name a few.
